Every year, around Diwali and the North Indian wedding season, the same WhatsApp message arrives from RWAs and society managers: "We need the gates and common areas lit, the festival is in three weeks." Some mean fairy lights and a temporary contractor. Some mean permanent cast aluminium fittings that will still be there next monsoon. Those are different jobs, and mixing them is how societies spend twice.
This is not the general builders and societies guide, which is about project supply: villas, internal roads, one invoice for a development. This note is about seasonal peaks such as Diwali, wedding months and society events, when timing from Aligarh matters as much as the model code.
Seasonal peak or permanent install
Temporary fairy lights and string sets belong to the event contractor, and they come down. Cast aluminium gate and pillar lights, wall lights and pole lanterns belong to the compound for many years if the body is honest. We have made the second kind in Aligarh since 1990. Societies that buy permanent fittings in October often do it because last year's temporary kit left rust stains, mismatched heads or empty junctions on the pillar caps. The festival is the trigger, and the maintenance complaint is the reason.
Use temporary lights for trees and pandals. Use permanent fittings for pillar caps, compound returns and the driveway poles you will still need in February. That split keeps the festival budget from becoming next year's maintenance ticket.
Why finish consistency shows up in photos
An RWA group chat notices colour drift immediately. Batch 1 in matte black next to batch 2 in an "almost black" from another supplier looks like two suppliers were mixed, even when both pieces work. Being a manufacturer helps here, with the same mould, the same coating floor and the same finishing. It is the same consistency argument as on the builders post, applied to a smaller seasonal lot, often 20 to 80 pieces across gate pairs, lobby returns and a few poles, not 200 villa sets.
Match the finish across every fitting visible from the main road. A black gate lantern next to an antique wall light on the same elevation is a photo the secretary will regret, so ask for one finish family on the quote.
Bulk timing from Aligarh: start before the rush
Trade lots start at 10 pieces, and one to five pieces are at retail list with no trade discount. A modest catalogue count is often packed before the week is out, while a society-sized run takes longer. The clock starts in Aligarh, not at your city gate, and that is workshop time, not courier days. Diwali week and peak wedding Saturdays are when everyone remembers the gate, and if you WhatsApp in festival week for eighty matching heads, you are competing with every other late society.
The pattern we see from Delhi NCR, Lucknow, Jaipur and similar cities is to lock the model and finish 2 to 3 weeks before the event date, confirm the quantity, pay the 50% advance on a confirmed order, and leave a courier buffer. Permanent cast aluminium or temporary sparkle
Aluminium doesn't rust the way iron does after monsoon humidity. Iron can look identical under a shop tube light and stain plaster later, and societies pay for that twice. WhatsApp quote checklist for societies and RWAs
Send one message that a works can answer without twenty follow-ups:
- Society name and city, and whether you are the RWA, a builder handing over, or the facility manager.
- Event date or "need by". Diwali week, a wedding date, or "before the AGM photos".
- Count by job. Main gate pairs, side gates, wall lights on compound and lobby returns, and pole lanterns (count and approximate height).
- Photos of the gate elevation and one pillar cap with a sense of scale, plus the internal road if poles are involved.
- One finish. Antique, matte black or grey, or a match to existing Padma fittings if you already have them.
- Empty or with glass and LED. B22 is standard unless you say otherwise, and the bulb isn't included unless the quote says so.
- Quantity band. Under 10 is retail and 10 or more is trade. For larger lots, expect 1 to 2 weeks at the works before dispatch.
